Once Upon a Time....

My trip to Sierra Leone is less than two weeks away now. Squeeeee!!!!!

However, if one more person makes a dumbass comment like “they’re all voodoo devil worshipers. Be careful!”

….seriously? Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

Yes, Sierra Leone is one of the most under-developed nations in the world, and yes, they had a horrible civil war (THAT ENDED A DECADE AGO), but does that mean it’s not worth going to? No. I’ve done my research, I am prepared, and I’m not ignorant. So, please, don’t come at me with your negative comments about me going. It won’t change my mind. I’m going. I am excited. My life will forever be changed when I come back home.

I am sooooooo tired of having to listen to people tell me that I’m going to get robbed, raped, initiated into some “devil-worshiping” tribe, that I’ll never make it back home, etc. etc. etc. Please, if you’re going to make such absurd generalizations about A WHOLE COUNTRY (which, by the way, is predominantly Christian or Muslim) then say it to someone else, because I don’t know how many times I can stand to hear it before I end up spitting in someone’s face. You don’t want to be that person.

I could go on and on about how much this annoys me, but I am distracted by how EXCITED I am to go.

It seems like every person I know has disappointed me today.

Okay maybe not EVERY person I know, but many of the people closest to me. All in one day.

I was looking at all my old posts (most of which I have deleted) from when I first opened a tumblr account about a year ago. I came to the conclusion that I was (and possibly still am?) quite annoying…..I would like to think, that hopefully, maybe, I have changed for the better? Haha.

Anywho, I went to a concert with Giovanni on Saturday and one of the opening acts was a band called Mon Julien. The band is made up of members from Tripping Daisy, Black Tie Dynasty, and Midlake (none of which I really listen to), and they’re awesome. You should check them out. Tony said they kinda have a lot in common with the styles of The Smiths, whom I love.
